Maruti Suzuki Dzire Overview
Since there is still some time before Maruti launches the new generation Swift hatchback in India, the Swift Dzire is definitely the next big thing that we all have been looking forward from the Indian auto manufacturer. Now that we know Maruti will be launching the new generation Swift Dzire in India on 16th May 2017 thus expect the bookings to commence from 1st of May onward. Let us get straight into the details of the most popular compact sedan of India.
Maruti had already made quite a name for themselves when they introduced the first generation Dzire back in 2008 and now with the new generation Dzire they surely expecting bigger sales figures. What is surprising is also the fact that Maruti has even dropped the Swift nameplate from the car to give the compact sedan its own identity.
The best thing is that the new generation Dzire will be based on a whole new platform which has helped in reducing the overall weight of the car.The only bad news is that The Dzire will continue to be powered by the same 1.2-litre VVT, while the diesel is the 1.3 DDiS, we also do not expect the numbers to be a whole lot different than the existing car. Maruti Suzuki Dzire Look
While the styling is from the Swift hatchback, a lot of effort has been put to make the Dzire look like a proper sedan. The fascia and the presence of a large blacked-out grille gives a very unique character. The thin chrome strip around the grille add to the overall appeal. The swept-back headlamp unit which houses the projector headlamp looks premium. The bumper too, is nicely shaped and sports large air intakes. Even though it’s a small inclusion, but having L-shaped chrome strips around the fog lamps does enhance the overall look.
Move over to its side and there are two things that are bound to catch your attention. First, the 15-inch alloy wheels that gets some fantastic design. Second, the curvy and the flowing lines on the body shell which makes the Dzire look proportionate. This was something that was missing on the outgoing model. The A-pillar looks well integrated into the body and the C-pillar merges nicely with the boot. The rear of the new Dzire looks matured, thanks to the wide hips and wheel arches. The large horizontal chrome strip at the rear and LED taillight flows well with the overall design.
Coming to the interiors, here’s where a lot of major revisions lie. The dashboard gets an all-new design and even though some elements are derived from the new Swift, Maruti has again made a lot of changes to things like the instrument cluster, AC vents, steering wheel, inlays on the dashboard, etc. There is a dual tone black and beige colour theme and the top variants come with wood inserts on the dashboard and steering wheel. The wooden inserts are provided with an intent of making the car feel premium but honestly, it could have been done in a better way and the quality also feels a bit inferior. However, the overall fit and finish of the insides feel much better than the second generation Dzire.
Due to the rear doors being wider, ingress and egress have become easier. The seats are large and comfortable and the cushioning is also soft but under thigh support felt a bit lacking. The driver’s seat gets height adjustment while the steering gets tilt adjustment and hence you can find yourself a good driving position with decent visibility all around. Space at the rear is decent but at the front, the footwell eats into space slightly. The roofline limits the headroom at the rear a bit. The boot is nicely shaped and has good cargo carrying capacity, it is larger by 60-litres now.
The third generation Maruti Dzire gets a good equipment list. You get automatic climate control and the cooling performance from the AC is very good and the rear AC vents are a big plus. The ORVMs are electrically adjustable and folding. The audio system is the same one that is also offered on the Baleno. The 7-inch touchscreen has a good response and it gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto too. Connectivity is seamless and the sound quality from the speakers is very good. Apart from that, the Dzire also gets keyless go with push button start and unlock sensors on the door. Check for Maruti Suzuki Dzire in icadl2013.org.in
Maruti Suzuki Dzire Gearbox
The Maruti Dzire gets two engine options under its hood which includes diesel and petrol, however; these are the same engines which also used to power its predecessor. The petrol variant gets the same 1.2 Litre K-series unit which produces about 61 KW of peak power at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. The diesel variant, on the other hand, gets the 1.3-litre four-cylinder DDiS turbodiesel engine which produces about 55 kW of peak power at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. Both the engines are paired to a 5-speed manual transmission while there is also an option AGS transmission on offer as well with both petrol and diesel engine options.
Although there have been no significant changes when it comes to the power output figures but the lightweight platform has helped the new Dzire to shed a lot of its additional weight which has assisted in giving the fuel efficiency a boost. The petrol engine now promises to return a claimed mileage figures of 22 km to a liter of the petrol while the diesel variant promises to return around 28.48 km/l making it the most fuel efficient diesel car of India.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire Rideing
The ride quality is on the softer side and the setup soaks up all the bumps and undulations brilliantly. However, at low speeds, there’s a noticeable stiffness. Straight-line stability is brilliant, thanks to longer wheelbase, and that gives an opportunity to stay in triple digit speeds. The steering wheel is light, which is a boon for the city use. But there’s a bit of vagueness at high speeds which plays a spoilsport. Obviously, the new Dzire is not supposed to behave like a hot hatch, but a bit of connection with the road would have been appreciated.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire Safety
The 2017 Maruti Dzire now comes with dual front airbags, ABS and ISOFIX mounts on all variants which is a very positive move. The car is lighter than before since it is based on the new HEARTACT platform. Talking about service, Maruti Suzuki has the best sales and after-sales network in India and the Dzire can be serviced in any nook and corner of the country since the company has a service centre almost everywhere.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire Bottomline
The most obvious observation is the price, which has gone up, making the top-end AMT versions really expensive. Plus, the car doesn’t get any new additions in terms of engine options. But the kind of improvements Maruti has done on this vehicle over its predecessor is overwhelming. These additions have made the 2017 Dzire a fantastic family car. And now, with more AMT options, the Dzire is an ideal choice for someone who don’t want to settle for less and wants a relaxing drive.
